General Principles
of the 8th Golden Tree International
Documentary Film Festival 2024
The Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival started in 2016 and is held every year. It aims to gather global attention, to use the lens to spread films rooted in a certain place, a certain period of history, and a certain culture from one continent to another, and to explore the differences between countries in the world. It traces the root of culture of civilizations, promotes exchanges and mutual learning, and builds a platform for the exchange of documentaries between the East and the West.
The 8th Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival is planned to be held during April 25th to 27th, 2024 in Paris.
1. Title
Full name: Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival
Abbreviation: Golden Tree Festival
2. Theme
Root of Culture：using the lens to record the exploration of various changes in the process of human reproduction, as well as their impact on the inheritance of cultural roots and unwavering persistence, presenting different civilizations to the world.
3. Contents of the event
The Golden Tree Festival includes units such as film competition, opening ceremony and documentaries’ night, film screenings, theme forums, round tables, joint meeting hall, closing and award ceremony.
3.1 Film Competition
3.1.1 Registration: from June 1st to December 31st, 2023.
3.1.2 Evaluation process: It is divided into three stages: preliminary evaluation, pre-selection and final jury.
3.1.3 Composition of jury members: The jury is composed of 38 experts, scholars and professionals from all over the world, divided into preliminary jury (28 members), pre-selection jury (5 members) and final jury (5 members).
3.1.4 Announcement of awards: The final award-winning films will be announced at the closing and award ceremony on the night of April 27th, 2024 .

3.2 Opening Ceremony and Documentaries’ Night
On the night of April 25th, 2024 the opening ceremony of the 8th Golden Tree Festival will be held in Paris, France, and an exchange reception will be held after the ceremony.
3.3 Film screening
On April 26th and 27th, 15 films will be selected for screening, and the creative teams will be invited to the scene to share the stories behind the documentary creation with the audience face to face. At the same time, the films will also be screened in schools, communities, small theaters and other places for free, and a Golden Tree Festival screening column will be set up on the online video platform for online screening.
3.4 Forum
On April 26th and 27th, 4 documentary-themed international forums will be held in Paris, France.
3.5 Round table
During the Golden Tree Festival, several round table meetings will be arranged, covering topics of technical cooperation, business cooperation, investment, procurement and etc.
3.6 Joint meeting hall
The 8th Golden Tree Festival will resume the joint meeting hall, which has been suspended for three years. Demand of documentary investment, broadcasting rights agency distribution, joint documentary filming, and documentary procurement can be fully discussed, exchanged, and satisfied during the session.
3.7 Closing and Awards Ceremony
Six awards including Golden Tree Award, Best Feature Documentary Award, Best Medium-length Documentary Award, Best Short Documentary Award, Best Director Award and Best Cinematography Award will be announced during the closing and award ceremony on April 27th, 2024.

The major purpose of the Golden Tree Festival is to promote the copyright transaction of documentary films. Based on the documentary film database, with the process of "Exhibition, Promotion, Exchange and Transaction", the Golden Tree Festival will hold various activities, including film exhibitions, industry forums, special events, copyright transactions, cooperative production, signing ceremonies, and commercial Investment, covering the entire chain of business.
6.1 The Golden Tree Festival does not set restrictions on regions and directors’ qualifications, and excellent documentary works from all over the world that meet the theme can participate in the film competition fairly.
6.2 The Golden Tree Festival provides a good trading environment and invites film buyers and investment institutions to participate. After the entries pass the preliminary review, no matter whether they are awarded or not, they will have the opportunity to get the attention of buyers, investors, and cooperative institutions.
6.3 Applicants (participants), including but not limited to directors, producers, distributors or related organizations, shall ensure the authenticity, completeness, and accuracy of the registration information, and bear the legal liability arising from false information.
6.4 Applicants participating in the Golden Tree Festival are required to provide basic information such as feature films, tailors, posters, stills, film introductions, director introductions, etc. Application materials will not be returned and will be retained by the Organizing Committee for archival purposes. These materials will be used for jury review and Golden Tree Festival’s non-commercial promotion. Due to the needs of review and promotion, the Organizing Committee has the right to disseminate and broadcast the above information on Internet and in theater within the corresponding period, as well as the right to print and publish relevant text and image materials. Applicants that register for the 8th Golden Tree Festival agree to accept the aforementioned terms and conditions as well as allow the Organizing Committee to use their registered email address for contact purposes.
7. Right of Interpretation
All terms and conditions of the Golden Tree Festival are interpreted by the Golden Tree Festival Organizing Committee. The "Statutes" and other "Details" and "Brochures" constitute the guidance documents of the Golden Tree Festival. The documents are composed of Chinese and English versions and have the same effect. The Golden Tree Festival Organizing Committee has the right to deal with all other matters not covered in the guidance documents. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to supplement and modify the terms and conditions to deal with some special circumstances. The supplements and modifications to the guidance documents will be publicly posted on the official website, and the effective time will be clearly indicated. Participants have the right to withdraw from this activity if they do not accept supplements and modifications.
